Mattan Rofei (Gift of Healing) - Henry Evan Bunck
Nechamah (Comfort) - Megan Garvey Bunck
October 24, 2009
Leader: God and Creator, a happy mother, Megan
Garvey Bunck, and a happy grandmother, Stephanie Shipper, have come into Your
presence to voice the longings of their hearts in prayer for their child Henry
Evan Bunck and to give him a Hebrew name.
Grant them insight to teach their child to be faithful to the heritage
of Israel, that he may grow up like a tree planted by streams of water, knowing
that You and Your Torah are always near, guiding and sustaining him.
Open
the eyes of his spirit, that he may ever be conscious of the beauty and wonder
of your world. Enable him to love the
goodness that is in all human beings, that he may nourish the goodness
implanted within him and make every person better for having encountered him.
Though
none can escape sorrow and pain, we ask for him the courage to face evil, the
faith to transcend it, and the strength to subdue it. Grant him many days in his life and much life in his days. May his presence in the world bring honor
to his family and the people Israel.
Blessed are You, Adonai our God, Ruler of the
Universe, who has given us life, sustained us, and enabled us to reach this
season.
Mother:
God of our Mothers and Fathers, I stand before you with gratitude, love and
hope. May you bring my baby boy into a
life of goodness, wisdom and joy. May
it be your will that he seek peace and pursue it. Let his light illuminate all people he encounters. Help me to lead him in paths of
righteousness, that he may be a worthy member of the Jewish community.
Grandmother:
God of all generations, I am grateful for new beginnings, for the bond of life
that links each generation. I thank You
for the blessings of family that bring meaning and happiness to our lives. I rejoice with my daughter in giving a
Hebrew name to my grandson today in the presence of God and the people
Israel. May we all grow together as a
family in health, harmony and love.
Leader:
Now, in the presence of loved ones, we give to this child the name MATTAN
ROFEI, which means Gift of Healing. Let
it become a name honored and respected for good deeds and wisdom. May God's blessing rest upon MATTAN ROFEI
now and always.
At
this same time, we give to MATTAN ROFEI's mother the name NECHAMA, which means
comfort. May it become a name honored
and respected for good deeds and wisdom.
May God's blessing rest upon NECHAMA now and always.
We
now invoke the Priestly Blessing on this family:
(Hebrew) May
Adonai bless you and keep you.
(Hebrew) May
Adonai look kindly upon you and be gracious to you.
(Hebrew) May
Adonai bestow favor upon you and grant you peace.
And
let us say: Amen.
Thank
you all for participating in this naming ceremony.
